According to a YouGov/CBS News poll this week, most Americans are concerned about their ability to pay for “everyday things” in America, according to President Biden’s statement.
The survey asked respondents to identify whether they were “confident” or “concerned” about a series of questions about their purchasing habits during 41 years of high inflation and record gas prices.
Overall, 65% said they were “concerned” about their ability to pay for “everyday things” and 66% said they were “concerned” about their ability to “holiday or travel”.
Nearly three-quarters, or 73 percent, said they were “concerned” about their ability to buy “expensive things,” and another 73 percent said they were “concerned” about their ability to save money now.
“Seven out of 10 full-time or part-time employees are concerned about their retirement plans, and six in 10 parents with children under 18 are concerned about their ability to pay for childcare,” CBS News reported.
The survey also showed that 75 percent rated the economy as “fair” or “weak”, while Biden’s approval rating was 41 percent. This reflects a 21 percent drop from the 62 percent who endorsed him at the start of his presidency in March 2021.
Overall, 66 percent disagree with Biden’s handling of the economy, and 44 percent expect the U.S. economy to enter recession next year.
The survey was conducted on 2,265 US adults on June 22-24, 2022 and had a +/- 2.6% margin of error.
