The Portuguese who take out mortgage loans increasingly have to ask the bank for almost the entire value of the house: 90%, the maximum allowed by the Bank of Portugal. According to data from the ComparaJá portal, in the first half of this year more than two thirds (66.8%) of the Portuguese asked banking institutions for financing of 90% of property valuation, which suggests that this proportion is increasing compared to the data that the Bank of Portugal recently published and which refers to the end of 2021.
“With the general increase in housing prices and the reduction in the duration of housing loans, these data have undergone significant changes and the Portuguese today need, more and more, the help and support of the banks“, concludes the Housing Credit Barometer 2022 of the compare now, a financial comparison portal whose analysis is based on approximately 7,000 credit offer comparison processes, started in the first half of this year. This is a representative sample, according to an official source, which includes lower value loans but also larger financings.
