Ventura challenges Costa to interrupt vacations to explain light rises

The leader of Chega, André Ventura, challenged the prime minister this Sunday to temporarily interrupt his vacations to explain to the Portuguese what the rise in electricity prices will be in August.

We learned that there was a risk that electricity could go up 40% in August. Today the government came to say that it was not quite like that, but it did not clarify much, and the prime minister should interrupt the holidays to explain this”, said the party leader in Cantanhede, in the district of Coimbra, during a visit to Expofacic – Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Exhibition of Cantanhede.

Although the environment and energy state secretary, João Galamba, denied that increase, André Ventura stressed that the issue is not clear at the moment and that the government official did not say what the increase would be.

Electricity. The Government “rejects alarmist statements” by the president of Endesa. EDP does not foresee further price changes until the end of the year

“At the moment we are talking, the Portuguese are wondering what will be the increase in their electricity bill in August,” stressed the leader of Chega, who visited a large part of the event accompanied by the mayor of Cantanhede, Helena Teodósio (PSD).

For Andre Ventura, “The Prime Minister must interrupt his vacation to come and explain what the real increase will be that we will have in August and, if he does not do so, everything is open for Chega, that is, an emergency meeting in Parliament to explain this.“.

The president of Chega hopes that it will not be necessary to trigger any procedure in the Assembly of the Republic and that “the president of the Government will come to explain the real rise.”

The Chega leader understands that any increase in the current situation “is complicated, especially at the moment we find ourselves, with inflation reaching historical levels, similar to the values of 1994, which could reach 10% at the end of year, and if we add this increase in energy, we can have the door open to a very deep crisis”.

The Secretary of State for Energy has said today that it is impossible for the energy bill to rise by 40% due to the Iberian mechanism, the president of Endesa pointed out in reference to the commercial offers of the companies themselves. Contrary to what the president of Endesa said, there is no increase of 40%. If you are talking about commercial offers from the company itself, only you can say so”, said João Galamba, speaking to Lusa.

The president of Endesa, Nuno Ribeiro da Silva, said, in an interview with Jornal de Negócios and Antena 1, that electricity will increase by around 40% in July bills.

“Specifically, from the end of August, but already in the electricity consumption bills for July, people will be in for an unpleasant surprise. […] We are talking about something of the order of 40% or more, in relation to what people paid”, said Nuno Ribeiro da Silva.
