The authorities resumed the search this Tuesday morning to try to find a 33-year-old man who has been missing since Saturday at the Montargil dam, in the municipality of Ponte de Sor (Portalegre), Civil Protection reported.
Contacted by the Lusa agency, a source from the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Portalegre explained that the raids were restarted at 07:00, by land.
Until around 9:20 am, the CDOS still had no indication that underwater searches had resumed. at the dam, with fire divers. For now, the operation mobilizes seven operatives, supported by three vehicles.
The alert for this situation was given to firefighters at 3:06 p.m. on Saturday. This man’s daughter, a 5-year-old girl, was still rescued alive from the dam, but she ended up dying.
A GNR source said that according to witnesses, the father and daughter were sailing in a rubber boat on the reservoir, in an area near the camp. “You were in the water, swimming, and the girl would be in the boat. Witnesses didn’t realize what happened next,” the source said.
The girl was rescued from the water by people and taken to land, unconscious, undergoing resuscitation maneuvers, the source of the public force reported at the time. She was transferred to the hospital in Abrantes (Santarém), but she died on the way.
The search for the father of the child, who disappeared in the water, has continued since Saturday.
