Lawyers representing Elon Musk have served a subpoena on Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, who served as CEO until November of last year. According to information made public by the court, this subpoena will be another attempt by Musk’s defense to prepare for the October trial.
Twitter and Elon Musk face off in court on October 17, after the social network moved forward with a lawsuit to force the world’s richest man to complete the Twitter purchase. On April 25, the social network accepted Musk’s offer to buy the company. The South African tycoon was willing to pay $44 billion for the company.
Through this subpoena, shared on Monday, Dorsey is asked to provide “documents and communications that reflect, reference or relate to the impact or effect of fake or spam accounts on Twitter’s business operations.”
For now, it’s unclear how Dorsey’s statements or documents could fit into Elon Musk’s defense theory.
Dorsey, who is currently CEO of Block, the company he helped found while on Twitter, had no comment.
In addition to Jack Dorsey, Kayvon Beykpour, a former head of product at Twitter, and Bruck Falck, a former chief revenue officer at Twitter, were also summoned. Both were laid off in May in what was described as a “cleaning house” before Musk arrived.
Elon Musk announced on July 8 that he no longer intended to go ahead with the acquisition of the social network. The withdrawal of the head of Tesla and SpaceX was motivated by doubts about the weight of false accounts and bots in the total number of users of the social network.
