The Chamber of Reguengos of Monsaraz (Évora) will advance this month with a package of measures to support the families of the municipality to help them cope with the increase in the cost of living, the mayor revealed this Thursday.
In statements to the Lusa agency, the president of the Municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz, Marta Prates, elected by the PSD, indicated that this set of measures includes, for now, support in the area of education, given the “closeness of the start of the new school year.
The measures are in the area of education, but these are the first actions of a support package for families that the municipality is preparing, anticipating and preparing for a possible social crisis,” he stressed.
According to the mayor, one of the measures is the creation in the municipality of the Family Support Component (CAF), which will allow, starting on the 26th of this month, the reception of children before and after the school period.
The CAF “did not exist in the municipality and we created it this year, but not only did we create it, but we understand that, in the next school year, it will be free for all beneficiaries, regardless of income level,” he said. .
Marta Prates stressed that, this year, this support is only available in the municipal seat and in São Pedro do Corval, and pointed out that the municipality intends to “study the possibility of [o] extend, in the next school year, to the other parishes of the municipality”.
It was a very pressing need for families”, that the city council is “solving not only the problem that parents do not have a place to leave their children during peak hours [antes e depois das aulas]but he also understands that parents do not have to pay for this service,” he explained.
This service will work, on weekdays, between 08:00 and 09:00 and between 17:00 and 18:15.
According to the mayor, the other measure included in the support package is to grant aid to students who reside in the municipality and study in another, due to the lack of educational offer in Reguengos de Monsaraz.
For example, there are many students from Reguengos de Monsaraz who have gone to study in Évora, because they want to train in the area of Arts, which has no answer in our group”, he said.
For these students, the municipality will contribute 50% of the value of the transport passes, said the mayor, noting that this aid is added to the support of the Environmental Fund for a 30% discount, so the students “are only paying 20%”.
“This is help that the municipality could and should have given before, because it is imperative, but it was not being given and we understand that this year it will be given,” Marta Prates stressed.
Students interested in the new passes must go to the Education Service of the municipality, while registration for CAF is available, until the 19th of this month, at the Education Service.
