INE revises low inflation for August to 8.9%

The interannual variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 8.9% in August, 0.2 percentage points less than the previous month, the National Statistics Institute (INE) announced on Monday.

Rounded to one decimal place, this rate is 0.1 percentage point lower than the value of the flash estimate published on August 31, although the difference was effectively only 0.03 percentage point.

The core inflation indicator (CPI excluding unprocessed food and energy) registered an interannual variation of 6.5%, a rate 0.3 percentage points higher than that registered in July. According to the INE, “this is the highest value recorded since March 1994.”
