RRP Lisbon Metropolitan Municipalities have already requested almost 60 housing projects

The municipalities of the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon (AML) presented almost 60 projects to support the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) within the scope of a housing action program, half of which have already been approved, according to a provisional balance .

According to the provisional balance released this Tuesday by the AML, until September 8, 56 projects were presented individually by the municipalities of the metropolitan area within the scope of their action plan for housing, within the framework of the PRR supports available for this zone. , of which 29 had been approved.

The data, presented at a meeting of the metropolitan housing task force, reveals that The vast majority of the projects presented are related to housing (45 projects), but there are also others referring to urgent and temporary housing (eight cases) and housing for students (three).

These requests represent the construction of 2,104 homes, 16 temporary accommodation (for victims of domestic violence, for example) and 361 accommodation places for students.

Of the 29 projects approved until last week, there are 24 for housing, three for temporary accommodation and two for student accommodation.

The 18 municipalities of the AML still carry out a provisional diagnosis of housing conditions: so far it is estimated that more than 4% of the population of this metropolitan area (49,400 households) lives in “unworthy housing conditions”.

In the coming years, and through the application of community funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, housing will be a priority investment objective throughout the Lisbon metropolitan area, through a common strategy.

The AML municipalities are developing a common framework agreement, published in the Diário da República on September 1, by virtue of which they will receive, until the end of September, applications from companies that can meet the criteria required for the technical development of projects, allowing to speed up the process, taking into account the strict financing requirements and the application calendar of the PRR until 2026.

“Through this framework agreement, it is expected, on the one hand, to obtain significant savings in the supply of goods and services and, on the other hand, to align the centralized purchasing policy of AML, its municipalities and other adhered entities, with the global policy of public purchases”, he also highlighted.

The “PRR Housing — AML 2021-2026” action plan focuses on programs to support access to housing, affordable housing, student housing, and the creation of a national subsidy for “urgent and temporary” housing.

The municipalities of Alcochete, Almada, Amadora, Barreiro, Cascais, Lisboa, Loures, Mafra, Moita, Montijo, Odivelas, Oeiras, Palmela, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira are part of the AML.
