131-carat white diamond discovered in Angola’s Lulo mine

The National Diamond Company of Angola (Endiama) announced on Wednesday the discovery of a 131-carat white diamond in the Lulo mine, in the province of Lunda Norte, considered the 29th of more than 100 carats extracted in that mine.

According to Endiama, from the aforementioned type 2-A diamond, found in block 19 of Lulo on September 13, 2022 It is the fourth over 100 carat recovered from that mine this year..

The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, quoted by the statement from the state diamond company, considers that the new discovery is proof of the country’s enormous diamond potential.

I am absolutely convinced that with discoveries of this nature we will be, in the near future, among the world’s largest diamond producers. For our part, companies will always be able to count on all the institutional support to guarantee the good performance of their operations,” said the official.

For the chairman of Endiama’s board of directors, José Ganga Júnior, the discovery of this diamond of “large size and quality demonstrates the quality of the partnership between Endiama, Rosas e Pétalas and Lucapa Diamond”.

This is the second large diamond extracted at the Lulo mine this September, after the first discovery of a 160-carat diamond on September 2.

The Lulo alluvial mine is operated by the Sociedade Mineira do Lulo, made up of the Angolan companies Endiama (32%), Rosas e Pétalas (28%) and the Australian Lucapa Diamond (40%).
