Most Portuguese are already cutting costs, and some even admit that they are reducing spending on essential goods. This is the conclusion of a survey conducted by Intercampus para o Negócios, Correio da Manhã and CMTV to more than 600 Portuguese about efforts to save money due to the economic crisis.

Only one in four respondents (25.7%) said they were not cutting spending. Nearly all others (72.5%) admit they are already cutting costs — and the vast majority of these (92.4%) do so containing trips to restaurants, clothing purchases (89.7%), entertainment and fun (88.3%) and trips (86%).

Seven in ten respondents who report striving to save (70.9%) are cutting energy costs, but half (48.1%) are also cutting back on food. By the way, more than a third of the Portuguese who are in savings (37%) are also already cutting the budget reserved for basic needs nutrition or hygiene.
