CTT fined almost 400 thousand euros by Anacom

Anacom, regulator of the communications sector, fined Correios de Portugal (CTT) almost 400 thousand euros. The fine of 398.75 thousand euros is due to “non-compliance with various obligations to which it is subject as a provider of the universal postal service,” the entity indicates in a statement. One of the violations detected is the non-delivery of registered packages/letters to the address of the recipients, leaving pick-up notices.

“Failure to meet adequate quality standards,” particularly in terms of postal network density and minimum service offering, is one of the violations identified, with alleged harm to citizens.

The fine is also due to the sending to Anacom of information that, according to the regulator, “was not reliable, regarding compliance with the density objectives of the postal network and minimum service offer” in three of the quarters of 2016 and 2017. In some cases, information on service quality and price indicators was also not available.

Other situations refer to the violation of the obligation of “home delivery of postal items included in the universal postal service” and the obligation of “protection of personal data and the private life of senders and recipients, in the delivery of said postal items to unauthorized third parties, not making any attempt to deliver by hand at the addressee’s address when he was there, choosing to leave collection notes, and also abandoning several postal items on public roads.

CTT can appeal this fine in court.
