MacKenzie Scott, the writer and philanthropist who was married for decades to Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, is divorcing again. According to Bloomberg, Scott filed for divorce from Dan Jewett, the science teacher she married last year, following her divorce from Jeff Bezos in 2019.
“We ask the court to dissolve our marriage,” says a petition filed Monday in Washington state superior court. The document states that the couple has a contract to divide real estate and other assets. And it is also clear that neither party will need financial assistance from the former spouse.
The marriage announcement was made by MacKenzie Scott last year, through his Giving Pledge page, where some of the world’s richest people pledge to donate part of their fortune.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, MacKenzie Scott has an estimated wealth of $27.9 billion, giving him 40th place on this list. Much of Scott’s fortune is tied to shares of Amazon, a company he also co-founded with his ex-husband.
With shares in the e-commerce company down 32% at this time of year, MacKenzie Scott’s fortune has also shrunk. This year he already registered a negative variation of 28,400 million dollars. Scott took over 4% of Amazon shares after his divorce from Jeff Bezos.
In March of this year, MacKenzie Scott announced the donation of 3.8 billion dollars to be distributed to 465 organizations.
