The Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (KTM) finished eighth on the first day of free practice for the MotoGP Thai Grand Prix, 17 of the 20 championship races.
On a sunny day, with a dry track, the Portuguese rider set the best lap of 1:30.608, 0.327 seconds behind the fastest, Frenchman Johann Zarco (Ducati). The Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) was second, 0.018 seconds behind the Frenchman, with the Spanish Jorge Martín (Ducati) third, at 0.190.
Miguel Oliveira, who had already been seventh in the first session, thus provisionally guarantees a place in the second qualifying round (Q2), which will be played on Saturday.
The Almada rider, who was the best of the KTM riders, still suffered a small crash at low speed in the first session of the day, dominated by Spaniard Marc Márquez (Honda), who also crashed at low speed.
With the possibility of rain on Saturday, the results of this day could be decisive when defining the direct passage to Q2.
Miguel Oliveira arrives at this 17th round in 11th place in the World Cup classification, with 106 points, 113 points behind the leader, Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), who was only fifth on this round.
