The National Union of Professional Firefighters (SNBP) demanded this Tuesday salary increases in 2023 and equal treatment for other public service workers, recalling that the salary scale of professional firefighters “has not been reviewed since 2002.”
The SNBP warns that firefighters should not be forgotten again in the salary increase proposal, since they are included in special careers. Therefore, it is essential that a salary adjustment be made for their salaries. The pay table has not been revised since 2002,” the union said in a statement.
The union’s alert comes after the government announced salary increases for the civil service for 2023.
According to the SNBP, The Government has indicated that it will take into account the other special careers for salary increases in 2023and the same principle should apply to firefighters.
“The firefighter career has the level two functional complexity requirement, in public administration, similar to that imposed in the technical assistant career. Therefore, as long as our salary table is not revised, which is not included in the single salary table of the civil service, at least the same principle must be applied to all firefighters, ”indicates the union.
The SNBP considers that firefighters “should not be put in the background, since they are also public officials and that in recent years they have felt a reduction in purchasing power and an outdated salary.”
The SNBP argues that the State Budget for 2023 must contemplate, at least, an increase for all firefighters, identical to that applied to technical assistants, that is, 104, 22 euros, “to have equity in salary increases for all public service workers.”
At this time, the SNBP takes that position and defends the revision of the salary scale of firefighters. We do not want more or less than the rest of the public administration workers. However, we ask for fairness in the treatment so that there is no further degradation of firefighters’ salaries, “the union also maintains.
The State Budget for 2023 will be delivered this Monday to the Assembly of the Republic.
