Russia’s Gazprom threatened on Tuesday to cut off gas supplies to Moldova and terminate the contract if the country does not pay its debts by Oct. 20.
“Gazprom reserves all its rights, including the total transfer of supply, in the event that the payment commitments are not fulfilled before October 20, 2022, as well as the right to terminate the contract at any time,” he indicated, to through a post. on the social network Telegram.

As for the company’s historical debt to the Russian giant, Moldovagaz director Vadim Ceban said the issue “given the objective circumstances, is beyond the company’s management powers.”
Even so, he said that the company is willing to negotiate “as soon as possible” with the main shareholders of the company and “make concrete proposals to resolve the issues that give rise to the dispute.”
Half of Moldovagaz shares belong to Gazprom and 37% to the Government of Moldova.
Ceban also assured consumers that transport and distribution companies “are ready to work in an emergency situation.”
