Minister of Health says that he does not enter into battles for numbers of adherence to unemployment

The Minister of Health has said this Friday that he will not “enter into a battle” for the numbers of adhesion to the strike of the public administrations, highlighting the agreement reached with the “overwhelming majority” of the nurses unions on the revaluation of the career .

“I think it is a very important effort for the National Health Service and for most of their professional careers and the rest of them. I’m not going to get into a battle over the number of strikes.”stressed Manuel Pizarro, in response to journalists on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 31st Congress of the Order of Dentists.

According to data from the coordinator of the Common Front, Sebastião Santana, the adherence to the strike of the national public administration, which takes place this Friday, was more than 80% in the night shift, with disturbances in the collection of solid waste throughout the country and minimal services in hospitals.

Regarding the effect of the strike in the area of health, Sebastião Santana said that the impact shows the struggle of the workers in a sector where there are thousands who “work in the National Health Service and earn the minimum wage with 30 years of service”.

Insisting that he would not “feed the debate on the figures” for joining the strike, Manuel Pizarro said that the Government is “very aware” that it has reached a “very important agreement on social consultation.”

“We have already made an agreement with one of the union centrals and with the unions that belong to this union center for the general issues of public service and we have reached an agreement with the vast majority of the nurses unions on the revaluation of the career of nurses which will mean that, by the end of this year, around 20,000 nurses will see their remuneration position reinforced with retroactive payment to January 2022”, said the minister.

For the minister, what is “relevant” is that the Government is aware that it is doing “what is necessary to value workers in public services in general and workers in the health sector, in particular.”
