“There is a very strong brand called Portugal” and “it is good” that tourism is not underestimated

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, said this Friday that the Portugal brand is “very strong”, and called not to underestimate tourism, a sector that, in times of crisis, is the last to close its doors and then the first to close Open.

The President of the Republic was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 33rd National Hotel and Tourism Congress, promoted by the Associação da Hotelaria de Portugal (AHP), in Fátima.

It is good not to belittle tourism. […] At the moment of truth, he is the last to close doors and the first to open doors as soon as he can,” said the President of the Republic, referring to the “merit” of businessmen in the sector in their reaction to the lack of definition of the Covid-19 pandemic, powers that led to such a rapid tourist recovery, he mentioned.

“It’s your credit. How did they get a sector to function as if they were prepared for that type of start-up? [procura a subir mais do que o esperado]?” she questioned.

Throughout the year, various indicators, such as tourism receipts, have shown that the sector has recovered at a higher than estimated level.

The 33rd hotel congress, which had more than 550 participants, took place in Fátima from November 16 to 18.
