National Federation of Education calls a national strike for February 8

On February 8, instead of joining the strike in the Porto district, which ends the 18-day strike, the FNE carries out a national strike instead

The National Federation of Education (FNE) announced this Wednesday that it will call a national strike for February 8 and will join, as of Wednesday, the strikes by districts initially called by a platform of eight union organizations.

“All these FNE strikes are further proof that the federation is completely in line with the just demands of Portuguese educators and teachers who, despite the lack of recognition and improvement measures for guardianship, continue to value and dignify the profession they embraced,” read the statement.

Last week, the union organization, which is one of the most representative in the sector, had already admitted the possibility of joining the district strike called by the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) in convergence with seven other unions.

The FNE has given a five-day notice, starting on February 1. A strike is scheduled for that day in the Santarém district, followed by Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu.

On February 8, instead of joining the strike in the Porto district, which put an end to the 18-day strike, the FNE carried out a national strike.

“For the FNE, the Ministry of Education shows itself incapable of bringing to the negotiating table concrete proposals for the assessment of the teaching career and the length of service provided,” says the federation, which had already threatened to abandon the negotiations if the guardianship it did not materialize. not to present solutions at the next meeting, despite the fact that its general secretary has recognized that some of the proposals for the contracting and mobility regime are positive.

However, the FNE writes that “the proposals to change the competition regime not only do not guarantee that the model will be improved and clarified, but rather introduce more factors of instability and injustice.”

Among the 12 union organizations participating in the negotiations with the Ministry of Education, 10 will be on strike in February: the Union of All Education Professionals (STOP) with an indefinite strike, which has lasted since December, the Independent Union of Teachers and Educators with partial unemployment, which began at the beginning of the 2nd period, the strike by districts and national strike between February 1 and 3, called by the National Union of Licensed Teachers.

On Saturday there will be a demonstration of education professionals, organized by STOP, with another protest scheduled for February 11, called by the platform of eight union organizations and to which the FNE will also join.
