The companies function as a micro-society. Whether small, medium or large. By promoting a better environment in these micro-societies, we are contributing to a better society”.
So says Maurício Korbivcher, CEO and Country Manager of Great Place to Work Portugal. Present in Portugal since 2000, this is the consultancy that distinguishes the Best Places to Work companies in the country.
On March 29, the time came to find out about the 2023 ranking. And in the midst of awards and distinctions, the conclusion was obvious: the most important thing a company has is, without a doubt, its people. The best places to work are characterized, among a list of factors, by treating their employees fairly, regardless of who they are and regardless of their place in the organization. If there was any doubt, this year’s edition came to demonstrate that the trust factor is, in fact, the key to the success of an organization.
winning word
The well-being of the employee is the fundamental piece. Both economically and environmentally, as well as their personal, physical and mental well-being.”
For Pedro Alves, Director of Engineering and Software at Diconium -a company that ranked 6th in the Best Workplaces™ category between 101 and 200 employees-, the employee is the center of any company.
“If one person is not well, it effectively affects their entire team or the project they are developing. This translates into a financial and productivity indicator that is important to monitor over time. I think it’s important for companies today to take this into account. There is a need to respond to their customers, but it is important that companies become aware that the employee is the key actor. It is important to foster this mentality to ensure that we are productive, that we have talent that we can train and allocate to our projects… and all of this will be reflected in the financial productivity of the country itself”, he says. .
As for Fernanda Correia, Norauto’s Human Resources Leader, the equation is simple. Happy employees equals an obvious financial impact:
Knowing that we have satisfied and motivated employees, we know that this will boost our turnover and, above all, the level of satisfaction of our customers”.
Ranking 3rd in the Best Place to Work category, with more than 500 employees, the Human Resources Leader affirms that the trust of those who make up a company is, indeed, the right impetus for a successful future.
But the conclusions do not stop there. Inês Odila, Country Manager of Coverflex Portugal, was in charge of receiving the prize corresponding to 1st place, in the category between 51 and 100 employees, and it did not take long for her to reinforce the trust factor, not only within Coverflex itself, but also in which other companies are concerned.
If we think that the safest people are the happiest people, they are themselves, and the happiest people produce more, I am sure that at the end of the day this also has a very positive impact not only on the culture, but also on business objectives” , reinforces . .
At a time when individuality is increasingly a concern for employees, creating the right work environment for their progression and retention are the next steps.
A person who is happy at work works much better and wants to work. It’s not that people are made to work harder, but in fact it makes a big difference to have a motivated team. And this implies knowing that you have the opportunity to grow and progress in a company with transparent criteria”
This was stated by Inês Sequeira Mendes, Managing Partner of Abreu Advogados, a company that occupies 9th place in the Ranking of Best Places to Work with between 201 and 500 employees.
“A company where people are discouraged, where there is not a great team spirit or connection to the work that people do, I recognize that productivity is much lower. A more productive company generates more income and allows for greater business opportunities”, adds the Managing Partner.
José Padre Eterno, general director of InnoTech –company in 7th place in the category between 51 and 100 employees– corroborates the opinions of his colleagues.
Happy people can always do better things. They can give more, they can be more productive. Creating a good working environment makes people feel happy and capable of contributing to the growth of the company itself”.
He adds that trust makes employees believe in the team they work for and “believe that they themselves can add value. Being more efficient, we deliver more and with quality and all this brings economic benefits at the end of the day”.
Making a company a good place to work is a mission that must take into account an endless list of factors. But when it comes to putting them into practice, there is a crucial element that can never be left behind: the employee. And since the business fabric of a country is an important part of its financial pie, looking at the list of winning companies for 2023 is a way of concluding that without confidence there would be no reason to celebrate.
