The average price of olive oil rose more than 63% in the period from July 17 to August 13 compared to the same period in 2022, according to the Agri-Food Prices Observatory platform that was available this Wednesday.

The Price Observatory compares the evolution of prices of a basket of 26 food products that represent cereals, fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, olive oil and dairy products, comparing some products with their production and consumption values.

According to the data available on the platform, the average price of olive oil for consumption was 6.22 euros in the four weeks between July 17 and August 13, a value that represents an increase of 63.68% ( or 2.42 euros) in interannual terms. year terms. Compared to the previous four weeks, the increase was 0.94%.

With a year-on-year increase in the average price close to 50%, oranges stoodwhose kilo cost the consumer an average of 1.44 euros in the period considered, which reflects an increase of 47.26% compared to the same period in 2022 and 15.73% compared to the previous one.

The kilo of onion and carrot in consumption registered, in turn, an increase in its average price of 44.9% and 42.7% respectivelyin year-on-year terms, although compared to the immediately preceding four weeks, both registered decreases (-6.7% and 4.6%, in the same order).

According to the same information, the seven vegetables for which the price evolution is provided registered year-on-year increases in their consumption, except for lettuce, whose 1.99 euros per kilo represents a decrease of 13.5% compared to the same period last year. . 2.11% compared to the previous one.

The Price Observatory also allows us to verify the evolution of food prices in production, with the available data indicating that, In the case of lettuce, it fell 38.61% compared to the price charged in the same period of 2022 and fell 3.5% compared to the previous period.

The purchase of pork fillets also weighed on the pockets of consumers, who paid an average of 5.04 euros for each kilo, that is, 13.3% more than a year before and 2.9% more than in the four weeks immediately preceding.
