A 31-year-old man, of foreign nationality, was seriously injured this Sunday after a work accident in an oil mill, in Brinches, in the municipality of Serpa, Beja district, a GNR source reported.
The same source told the Lusa agency that the accident occurred at the Brinches Agricultural Cooperative, when the man was working in the mill next to a conveyor belt and his arm got trapped in the equipment.
“The victim suffered a fracture in his left arm with loss of tissue,” and was transferred to the São José Hospital in Lisbon, Guarda’s source added.
A source from the Bajo Alentejo Subregional Emergency and Civil Protection Command indicated that the accident alert was given at 3:27 p.m.
The Working Conditions Authority (ACT) was contacted to carry out investigations related to the accident, according to the GNR.
Serpa and GNR firefighters participated in the relief operations, with six operators, supported by two vehicles, according to the subregional command.
A helicopter from the National Emergency Institute (INEM) was also mobilized to the scene, but it was not used to transport the victim.
