The Government is preparing a “package” with 60 measures to relaunch the economy

The Government will launch next week a new package of 60 measures to relaunch the economy, said Luís Marques Mendes on SIC and confirmed to Observador. The former leader of the PSD said that the measures focus on the area of “innovation, sustainability, trade and tourism”, anticipating that the plan, which he called a “package”, will have “incentives for companies in Portugal gain scale“.

According to the Observer, the measures are still being finalised. In recent days, there have been intense negotiations between the Minister of the Economy, Pedro Reis, and the Minister of Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento. The measures will be approved by a Council of Ministers to be held on Thursday 4 July.

Last Tuesday, at the conference “BIAL 100 Years – Shaping the Future”, held at the Serralves Foundation in Porto, the Minister of Economy said that “it is possible to relaunch the economic growth of the Portuguese economy and it is possible to change the situation in a few years.”

Pedro Reis’s statements on this occasion show that the path of the new Government package will be to try to help companies gain scale to be more competitive in the international market. Incentives for business mergers, for example, will be one of the measures presented next week.

The Minister of Economy said at the time that “it is not worth complicating the equation of economic growth” and that Portugal needs more internationalization, more innovation, more talent acquisition, more external investment and more capital. And he added, quoted by Agência Lusa, that “with this, more scale is coming and with scale comes the success of companies and with the success of companies comes balanced and sustainable growth and, thus, we build a balanced country.”
