Livre says the Government wants to negotiate “crumbs” within the scope of OE2025

Livre spokesman Rui Tavares accused the government on Sunday of negotiating “crumbs” with the remaining parties in Parliament, in the context of the preparation of the General State Budget for 2025.

“If the government says it will not change the IRC for large companies and the IRS for young people for those who earn more (…), after we have spent all the money on this, we will discuss the crumbs with the other parties in Parliament. It is a strange way of governing for a government that does not have a majority. It seems that they really want to create a political crisis and go to elections,” said Rui Tavares.

The deputy and spokesperson for Livre spoke to journalists in Aveiro, on the sidelines of the closing of “Os Setembrinas”, an initiative that marks the return party policy.

Rui Tavares argued that it is necessary to negotiate a budget in which Parliament is fully represented, stating that there should already be “a commitment to equity and investment” in order to know how to use the budget surplus.

“The parties that have enough votes to approve a budget must have their cards on the table and the government must negotiate seriously and not based on crumbs,” he stressed.

Tavares also mentioned that the Government is “unwavering” when it comes to helping those who benefit the most, stating that Livre will continue to be unwavering “in policies that interest everyone, particularly those most disadvantaged by family luck.”

In his closing speech, Rui Tavares also considered the number of wiretaps carried out in 2023, announced last week by the Attorney General of the Republic, in her hearing in Parliament, on the occasion of the presentation of the Ministry’s report for 2023, to be “a scandal”. Public.

“There are more people to listen to in this country than the voters of some parties or the fans of some football clubs or of a city of considerable size,” he said ironically, pointing out that Livre will demand clarification on this issue at the first Constitutional Affairs Committee. Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees

For Tavares, wiretapping should only be allowed for “very restricted reasons of criminal investigation, imminent threat of terrorist attack.”

“We need to understand under what conditions, in what way, with what kind of information and control, people are listened to in Portugal,” he argued.

Rui Tavares also announced that the first parliamentary sessions of Livre will take place in Elvas on the 23rd and 24th.
