On the eve of the BES/GES trial, Salgado speaks out in the case of the latest capital increase of BES

On the eve of the trial for the BES/GES case, which begins this Tuesday, former banker Ricardo Salgado was pronounced for new trial in the process of the last capital increase of Banco Espírito Santo (BES), carried out in 2014. Ricardo Salgado, Amílcar Pires, Rui Silveira and Isabel Almeida were accused, since 2022, of being co-authors of the Market manipulation and qualified fraud crimes. José Manuel Espírito Santo, who died in February 2023, was on the list of defendants.

Judge Alicia Andrade Moreira validated the entire accusation of the Public Ministry and pronounced the accused to the exact extent of the accusation, according to the ruling order to which the Observer had access.

“In light of the evidentiary evidence collected and for the reasons stated above, the court formed its conviction that it is more likely that the defendants who requested the investigation phase have committed the acts charged against them in the public accusation In light of these same elements, there is a qualified probability that they will be convicted for the acts attributed to them,” reads the investigation resolution of the Central Court of Criminal Investigation.

Ricardo Salgado and three other former BES administrators accused of market manipulation and qualified fraud

Ricardo Salgado has already been judged in two cases. In June of this year, the former president of the BES was sentenced to six years and three months in prison for the crimes of corruption and money laundering in the EDP process, in which it was proven that he corrupted former minister Manuel Pinho.

Previously, in February, Salgado saw how the Supreme Court of Justice confirmed the sentence of eight years of effective prison decided by the Lisbon Report for the alleged practice of three crimes of abuse of trust for having appropriated approximately 10 million euros of the Holy Spirit Group.

In addition to the process of the latest capital increase of Banco Espírito Santo (BES), whose announcement was announced this Monday, Ricardo Salgado will also be judged in the processes of Operation Marquês, BES Angola and BES/GES, the latter in its first scheduled session for this Tuesday.
