The former president of Banco Espírito Santo Investimento (BESI), José Maria Ricciardi, said this Friday in court that Ricardo Salgado asked him to “be in solidarity with the family” and with the “falsification of accounts” in the Espírito Santo Group (GES). ).

As a continuation of the investigation that began on Thursday at the Central Criminal Court of Lisbon, Ricciardi began to answer questions from those attending the trial of the BES/GES case. revealing a dinner he had at the house of his cousin and former president of BES, in June 2014, in which he expressed surprise at the “exaggerated kindness” of Ricardo Salgado and his wife, at a time when they no longer had good relations and practically did not speak to each other.

“I immediately realized that something was going to happen. After dinner he asked me to come to his office and then asked me what I wanted. And I responded that I wanted BESI to have more capital to develop,” Ricciardi began explaining.

“He said he would do everything possible so that BESI could have more capital. But I said that to do this I needed to finally have some solidarity with the family. And I said what, in relation to the falsification of accounts? And he answered yes. I told him no.”
