JD Sports can buy Courir but the stores in Portugal must be sold

The European Commission approved the acquisition of Courir by JD Sports, provided that recommendations aimed at resolving competition problems are respected, in particular in Portugal, where the stores of the first group will be sold to Snipes.

According to a statement released this Wednesday, Brussels approved “the acquisition project of the French group Courir SAS (“Courir”) by the British group JD Sports Fashion Plc (“JD Sports”), but all footwear and sportswear stores, leisure and income in Portugal and certain areas of France They have to be sold to the German Snipes so as not to reduce competition in the retail markets.

“We were afraid that JD Sports’ acquisition of Courir could affect the sports footwear retail markets in France and Portugal,” European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Verstager said in the statement.

HE The sale of certain Courir stores to Snipes “will preserve competition in these markets, for the benefit of consumers in terms of prices, quality and choice,” he highlighted.
