PS warns of a possible strike in the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Citizens with Mental Disabilities in Braga, but the institution de-dramatizes

The PS warned this Wednesday that a strike by the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Citizens with Mental Disabilities (APPACDM) in Braga could be imminent due to the delay in the payment of holiday bonuses.

Contacted by Lusa, the president of the institution, Bruno Silva, admitted that Payment of “part” of the subsidy is missing but he added that the workers will soon know “what the strategy is” to regularize the situation.

“The situation is being properly addressed,” he highlighted.

At the meeting of the Braga Chamber this Wednesday, socialist councilor Ricardo Sousa alluded to the “serious” financial difficulties of the local APPACDM delegation and the delay in the payment of vacation pay, and said he has reports from parents of users that point to the possibility of a workers’ strike.

Ricardo Sousa asked if the Chamber has thought about “any contingency plan” in case the strike occurs and users are left without support.

The president of the Chamber, Ricardo Río, said that he has not been informed of concerns from the parents, he only added that he will speak with those responsible for the APPACDM to find out the situation.

To Lusa, Bruno Silva, who has directed the institution since February, said that inherited “a colossal hole“, without advancing the value.

In March, also in statements to Lusa, he alluded to a debt of between two and three million euros.

Regarding the possible strike, he said the issue could be a union that represents only “four percent” of the workers.

“It has absolutely no impact,” he said, adding that the “concerns” expressed this Wednesday by the socialists “are unfounded.”

According to the person in charge, APPACDM in Braga has around 170 workers, with a monthly salary of 220 thousand euros.
