BE announced this Tuesday a proposal to modify the State Budget for 2025 to avoid cuts in RTP income, while Chega proposed that public television have more advertising.
These positions were conveyed to journalists after meetings with the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pedro Duarte, who this Tuesday is listening to representatives of the opposition parties in the Assembly of the Republic about the PSD/CDS-PP Government’s plan for the media.
In turn, the IL reiterated its position for the end of audiovisual contribution and defended that there must be a reform of the legislation in this sector, admitting the extinction of the Professional Journalist Card Commission (CCPJ), with the respective powers transferred to ERC – Regulatory Body for Social Communication.

The parliamentary leader of BE said it hopes the Government continues to backtrack on the idea of phasing out RTP advertising. and announced, among other proposals, that his party wants to modify the State Budget for 2025 in the specialty so that “no autonomous source of income in RTP can be cut” until there is “a stable financing model.”
According to Fabián Figueiredo, BE also defends a modification of the press law to impose “a prior evaluation of suitability for any business to all shareholders and owners of companies who want to acquire media” and the guarantee of “access to a signature “digital communication of a media of your choice” for those studying secondary or higher education.
For Chega, deputy Patrícia Carvalho also criticized the idea of eliminating RTP advertising and said that her party has a project in the opposite direction. “which aims to increase the proportion of advertising in RTP, so as not to overburden taxpayers so much“.
