ABC Legal Analyst Sunny Hostyn said on ABC’s “The View” program on Monday that she believes the nationwide shortage of baby food is due in part to America’s lack of federal paid maternity leave.
Host Joy Behar said: “This crisis erupted after a major recall from Abbott Nutrition for fears that their formulas would kill and disgust some babies. But they said they were investigating and found no evidence that the formulas were to blame. So they continue production when the FDA allows it. Most “There are only four companies that make baby food for the American. So let me ask you. Is it Biden’s fault that we have supply problems today, or is it supply and demand problems? Whose fault is this?”
“I think part of the blame is that we have a monopoly in this country. Only four companies do it and we don’t import a lot of baby food,” Hostin said.
She continued: “But I think the guilt lies in having a terrible maternity leave because so many women want to stay home, breastfeed and take care of their children, and that’s the point. We can’t do that because our maternity leave is too limited and we have to get back to work right away to take care of our families and feed our families.” and the government doesn’t support us on this, and I think that’s the problem.”
Hostin said, “I worked for the government and after the birth of my son I had to get permission from other federal prosecutors to stay at home longer and have a caesarean section. It’s totally ridiculous. 20 years later it still hasn’t changed.
