FALLS CHURCH, Virginia (AP) — Actress Amber Heard’s boyfriend testified Wednesday that Heard’s ex-husband, Johnny Depp, saw bruises and cuts on the hands from multiple abuses.
In a recorded statement played for the jury, Raquel Pennington said she did not personally see Depp’s fist in the Heard case. However, in December 2015, he said he saw the injuries and snapped a photo of Heard’s face after a fight where Depp said he headbutted him and possibly broke his nose.
The photo shows Heard’s face with a swollen nose, a broken lip, and two relatively black eyes.
He also took a photo of the strands of hair Heard said were torn on his head.
Pennington said Heard “often had to hide bruises and facial injuries” by using makeup in a statement in January 2022.
Pennington said he doesn’t see himself as Heard’s current friend and they broke up last year.
Depp sued Heard for defamation in the Fairfax County District Court in Virginia for an article in The Washington Post in December 2018 in which he described himself as “a public figure representing domestic violence.” His lawyers said that he had slandered himself, even though the article was not named. The trial is now in its fifth week.
Depp said he had never harmed Heard and was harassed by Heard.
The fight in December 2015 was one of the few most controversial. While the jury saw photos taken by Pennington documenting the injuries, they also saw Heard’s video aired on a late-night talk show the next day when the wounds were not visible.
Hurd said the wounds were only covered with makeup.
Pennington’s deposition came after Heard completed his time as a witness, including two grueling daily cross-examinations in which Depp’s lawyers asked Heard about the veracity of the physical and sexual harassment allegations.
Pennington’s testimony confirms some of the alleged attacks. In addition to the December 2015 incident, Pennington said he saw cuts to Heard’s legs when he returned from a trip to Australia in March 2015. Mirrors of attack.
