Isaiah Lee, the man caught on camera blaming comedian Dave Chappelle for a live performance at the Hollywood Bowl last month, has now revealed the motive for the alleged attack: a joke.
talk to New York PostLee has not only disclosed that she identifies as bisexual, but has also chosen to sue Dave Chappelle for his “provocative” jokes, which are considered offensive by some in the LGBT community.
“I introduced myself as bisexual… and I wanted her to know that what she said worked,” Lee said. “I want her to know that next time she should consider giving her material to people she can influence first.”

Lee said his change came when another comedian joked about pedophilia.
As he hurried onto the stage, Dave Chappelle’s security team immediately pounced on Lee and beat him, seriously injuring him.

After his arrest, police discovered that Lee was armed with a replica handgun with a retractable blade inside. Lee said he carried the gun in self-defense and did not accidentally kill Chappelle that night. While not charged with a felony for assaulting Chappelle (who was heavily criticized by the comedian’s legal team), Lee was charged with attempted murder on Friday for allegedly attempting to stab his roommate in the last December of the year.
The attack on Dave Chappelle comes weeks after actor Will Smith took the stage at the Oscars broadcast and punched comedian Chris Rock for a joke about his wife’s haircut. Comedians have since said that Smith has set a precedent for bullies whose jokes attack the comedians whose jokes caused them.
“I thought you opened the flood gates,” Howie Mandel said. “We’re being attacked as a comedian to the point of being canceled for something you don’t like, something you find offensive, something you find too soon.”
“You saw what happened at the Oscars and I thought it worked – violence brings violence. And I think this is the beginning of the end of comedy,” added Mandel.
