LONDON (AP) — Kevin Spacey “strongly denied” the allegations of sexual misconduct when his lawyer appeared in court in London on Thursday, where the Oscar-winning actor faced five charges against three men.
When Spacey, 62, arrived at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London for a preliminary hearing, photographers and videographers surrounded him.
Half an hour after the trial, Spacey sat on a dock with a mirror in front of him and stood to give his full name, Kevin Spacey Fowler, his date of birth, and his London address.
He was not asked to make an official statement, but his lawyer, Patrick Gibbs, said: “Spacey denies any guilt in this case.”
Deputy Attorney General Tan Ikram released Spacey unconditionally on bail until the next hearing, and a defense hearing is scheduled for July 14.
The former House of Cards star has been charged four times with sexual assault and forcing a person to have sex without their consent.
The alleged incidents occurred in London between March 2005 and August 2008, and another incident occurred in West England in April 2013. The victims were in their 30s and 40s.
Spacey said last month that he would travel to the UK to file a lawsuit and was confident he would “prove his innocence”.
In 2019, British police questioned Kevin Spacey about his statements that some men had attacked them. The two-time Oscar winner directed at London’s Old Vic Theater from 2004 to 2015.
Spacey won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for 1995’s The Usual Suspects and an Oscar for the lead role in 1999’s American Beauty.
But his celebrity career came to an abrupt end in 2017 when the star of actor Anthony Rapp accused Rapp of assaulting him at a party in the 1980s when Rapp was a teenager. Spacey denied the allegations.
