NBC Office Star Rainn Wilson has publicly apologized for posting a transgender “breastfeeding” joke on Twitter, saying she does not intentionally promote “false information and mischief”.
Rainn Wilson tweeted his deleted joke on Wednesday. “TIL [Today I learned] you can no longer say “breastfeeding or nursing mother”, you must be a “breastfeeding mother”. Just for your information. “
“Breastfeeding” is a gender-neutral term popular in the transgender community that refers to the act of breastfeeding a baby. The term is particularly common among trans “trans-male” and female-to-male transgender people who have recently given birth but are no longer recognized as females.
Wilson apologized for the joke after the quick reaction on social media.
“After talking to some trans friends and learning a bit, I wanted to apologize for the tweet,” she wrote. “He added misinformation and nonsense. Sorry. “

According to the Daily Beast, Wilson’s original joke may have been inspired by the UK’s Public Health Service directive promoting more inclusive language for transgender parents.
Rainn Wilson once tweeted that the “biggest threat” to Americans is “bad white men with guns”. She is also a climate change activist and most recently making a series of documentaries with Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg she.
