Maher: WaPo journalists ‘chat on Twitter’ about joke ‘reflecting what’s wrong with journalism today’

On HBO’s “Real Time” show on Friday, host Bill Maher said: Washington Post Suspending Dave Weigel in a retweeted joke “effectively captures what’s wrong with journalism today” and “Tweeting over a retweet all this time begs the question, don’t you have anything better to do? You don’t have to be reporters exposing some bullshit” Aren’t there more important issues in America today?”

“If anyone knows of a story that captures what happened in journalism today more effectively than the sad legend of what happened last week,” Maher said. Washington Postthey should keep it to themselves. Because that would be very depressing.”

Maher said throughout the story: “The truth is Mail The initial reaction was not to punish Felicia, but to punish one of her top reporters for making a silly joke that the nursery was already in charge. Today, June 17, marks the 50th anniversary of a very important event in American history. On this day in 1972, the Watergate theft took place and for the next two years Washington Post gave the world a master class in investigative journalism. I have to wonder how Mail The newsroom will now address how they are currently handling this or any story. All this time tweeting about a retweet begs the question, do you really have nothing else to do? Aren’t you supposed to be the reporters who bring out some bullshit? Aren’t there more important problems in America? So you are not responsible. Because if someone calls the newspaper “Deep Throat” today and wants to meet in the garage, this emotional hemophilia group will have a panic attack and let HR know that they are not safe. ”
