The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency in the United Kingdom has approved a Covid-19 vaccine from the Franco-Austrian laboratory Valneva, as announced today by the UK Medicines Regulatory Authority.

The agency said in a statement: “The Covid-19 vaccine developed by Valneva has now received approval from the Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency in the UK,” emphasizing that it is the first in the world to approve the vaccine.

Valneva’s laboratory received permission for emergency use of the vaccine it developed in the Kingdom of Bahrain, where it purchased a million doses.

The laboratory has also signed an agreement with the European Commission to give it a maximum of 60 million doses over two years, in 2022 and 2023.

And Valneva is the sixth Corona virus vaccine licensed in the United Kingdom, after AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and Novavax.

Valneva can be given to people aged 18 to 50 years in two doses at least 28 days apart.

This vaccine can be stored at normal refrigerator temperature for ease of use.

The UK has been hit hard by the Covid pandemic, which has killed more than 171,000 people in the country. More than 92% of the population aged 12 and over received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, 86.2% of the population aged 12 and over received a second dose, and 67.8% received the booster dose.
