The White House announced today that it is confident that authorities can “eliminate” monkeypox in the United States by accelerating the introduction of vaccines and treatments to combat the spread of the virus.

“I think monkeypox can be completely contained,” White House coronavirus response coordinator Ashish Jaa said in an interview with CBS News.

He also added, “We moved quickly” in response to accusations that President Joe Biden’s administration was unprepared when the first cases began to appear in US states more than two months ago.

He pointed out that Washington has undertaken an intensive response “on a massive scale”, including receiving about 800,000 doses of vaccine from Denmark, since the outbreak in the United States in May, when supplies of monkeypox vaccine were limited, noting that “This plan is central to it.” Get the virus out of the United States,” adding, “We can do it.”

Yesterday, the World Health Organization declared the monkeypox outbreak a global health emergency after it infected around 17,000 people in 74 countries.
