Dr. Anna Belousova, a Russian nutritionist, reports that eating milk with cookies at night improves mood. But such a dinner is harmful to the health of some people.
In an interview with “Sputnik”, the expert points out that hot milk with biscuits is actually a classic mix that is usually served before bedtime to children aged 3 to 4 years. Also, many adults like this mixture, because it improves mood and helps. to fall asleep quickly.
According to him, the amino acid tryptophan in milk has a calming effect. And this acid when the milk boils accumulates in the foam, and it must be taken into account.
He says: “Milk is only a source of tryptophan if you don’t remove the foam from the boiled milk, because when you remove it, the amino acid goes with it. So when the milk is boiled, it should be churned. Acid Tryptophan is a precursor to the happy hormone serotonin, which is very relaxing at night.”
The expert explains why many people like to drink milk at night with cookies.
“Cookies are as antidepressant as candy,” she says, “so milk with cookies is the perfect combination with a sedative and even slightly hypnotic effect.”
He added, but it’s not for everyone. It is not suitable for people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, as well as for people who are overweight or obese.
He said: “People with type 1 diabetes need to monitor their insulin levels, and milk mixed with cookies will definitely raise glucose levels, which need to be adjusted. For people with type 2 diabetes, as well as people who are overweight and obese, this combination will increase your weight when eaten every day in the evening. It is true that milk is not high in calories, but cookies is rich in calories, which a person does not spend at night, so it is converted into fatty tissue.
And crackers slow calcium absorption, no matter what kind of flour they’re made from, he says.
He says: “All types of cereal contain ingredients that make it difficult to absorb calcium. The body removes calcium at night. Therefore, nutritionists advise drinking a glass of yogurt or milk before going to bed to make up for the lack of calcium. But if you add crackers to milk, you interfere with the absorption of calcium, and by the way, the higher the fat content of the milk, the better, because calcium is absorbed with the fat.”
