Dr. Tatiana Filippova, a Russian endocrinologist and nutritionist, announced that in order to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood, adjustments should be made to the diet followed.
“Taking medicine is not the only way to normalize blood cholesterol levels,” he said in an interview with “Vecernaya Moskva” newspaper. “Because diet, physical activity and lifestyle also affect this process. Therefore, making adjustments to the aforementioned factors can lower blood cholesterol levels to their normal limits.
According to him, there is no specific food that directly helps in lowering cholesterol. Therefore, sources of dietary fiber should be a major part of the diet. Sources of this fiber are fresh vegetables, fruits, green leafy vegetables, seeds, grains, and nuts. He also mentions the benefits of various vegetable oils: olive oil, sunflower oil, flaxseed oil, sesame and others.
“The ideal daily diet for a person should contain 2-3 types of oils, use them together or alternately,” he said.
