The Ministry of Climate Change of the United Arab Emirates confirmed that the country has no products containing insects and that all food is subject to sanitary control and requested to investigate the information from the official authorities.
The ministry said in an official statement on its Twitter account: “Regarding what has been spread on social networks and media about some European countries allowing insects to be added to some food products, we confirm that all food traded in the Country’s markets is subject to control. in accordance with health requirements.” approved technical regulations and type specifications.
The Ministry pointed out that approval for the entry of any food product containing insects or their extracts requires obtaining a “Halal” certificate, which is issued based on fatwas issued by the country’s competent authorities .
In this sense, he added that Technical Regulation No. 2055-1 is included in relation to “Halal Foods – Part One: General Requirements for Halal Foods” that “all kinds of insects and worms such as ants and bees are non-Halal foods, except only lobsters and what can’t help. Like the parts of bees that fall into honey.
And he emphasized in his statement that he ensures that the requirements of the technical regulations and standard specifications of the local regulatory authorities are met, especially regarding food safety and health, through laboratory testing in accredited official laboratories. which can accurately determine the origin of proteins. .
