Bad jobs: what are they and what are the consequences?

Since 2016, the world has been dealing with a wave of self-help books with obscenities in the title: the author who launched the craze was Mark Manson, with The subtle art of knowing how to say fuck it (2016, Portuguese edition 2018), followed by it’s all screwed up (2019). Shit Jobs: A Theory (originally published 2018) is not one of this group, nor does the obscenity in the title play a merely conspicuous role: David Graeber (1961-2020), an American anthropologist whose career has combined teaching at Yale and the London School of Economics . with anarchist militancy, he has to his credit a work with serious purposes (even when the titles are provocative) and that has won critical acclaim. Among his essays, it is worth noting Debt: The first 5,000 years (2011) and Democracy Project: A Bold Reflection on the World’s Most Powerful Political Idea (2013, published in Portugal by Presença), which is now added Shit Jobs: A Theoryde Edições 70 and translated by Hugo Barros.
