Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo and teammates Joao Moutinho and Rafael Guerrero will miss their country’s match against Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League this weekend, coach Fernando Santos announced on Saturday.

The trio were excused from traveling to Geneva on “administrative” grounds, not injury.

“This is not about physical problems, this is an administrative issue,” Santos said at a press conference in Lisbon.

He added: “It makes no sense for 26 players to go to Switzerland, we have the right to include 23 players in the roster,” he did not elaborate.

Ronaldo, five times the best player in the world, did not participate in team training before leaving for Geneva.

Portugal will take on Switzerland on Sunday and remain at the top of Group B of the Nations League.

After a 1-1 draw with Spain in Seville and two victories in Lisbon against Switzerland in a match in which Ronaldo scored two goals and the Czech Republic in the second, Portugal lead the group with seven points, two points behind La Roja. .
