It’s not the first year that scientists have had complaints about the Starlink satellite group. Previously, it was already accused of creating obstacles during space observations, and now it is generally called dangerous.
Experts from China have come up with another round of criticism. They stated that the satellites of the Starlink system violated the safety rules by ignoring the rules of keeping distance between themselves.
Thus, on June 30, two Starlink satellites approached each other at a distance of only 4.9 km, despite the generally accepted standards implying compliance with a distance of 10 km between objects in orbit.
At the same time, as proof that all this is not a coincidence, the scientists conducted a full-fledged study, and their results were published in the scientific journal Radio Engineering. In it, they concluded that SpaceX deliberately brought the satellites this close together in order to maximize the performance of the laser communications system.
The current margin of safety is based on scientific calculations. Crossing this line can have dangerous consequences, as one collision can lead to another.
