Salman Rushdie is writing a book about the New York attack

Salman Rushdie is working on a book about the attack that left him blind in one eye and temporarily paralyzed in one hand. In an interview with Time, the British writer revealed that he is trying to find the right words to describe what happened to him in August last year and that this story will probably be the next thing he publishes.

“One of the things I’m doing is trying to find a way to write about what happened. Whatever is posted next will probably be text about it. For me, it’s a way of taking control. I’m still trying to figure out what it’s going to be like. I can’t say much about it, except that that’s my intention and that I’m working on it,” she said.

Salman Rushdie spoke for the first time of the ‘colossal attack’ that left him blind in one eye and paralyzed in one hand

Rushdie was stabbed to death in August last year at the Chautauqua Institution in New York, where he was to attend an event moderated by Henry Reese, one of the founders of an organization that offers protection to endangered writers. The author was taken to the hospital in serious condition. As a result of the incident, he was blinded in one eye.

In the conversation with Time, the British writer living in the United States of America admitted that he has not yet fully recovered from the attack, but that he is on the way to a full recovery. “The human body has a tremendous capacity to heal itself,” he said, admitting that “the eye is not coming back” and that the hand that was temporarily paralyzed “is making a very good recovery with a lot of therapy.”

Rushie, who said in an interview with The New Yorker in February that he was in therapy to get over the event, admitted that he is still being followed. “As you can imagine, this is a terrible event in a person’s life. And it takes some time to digest,” he said. Admitting that he currently doesn’t usually get out much, the writer said that he has “intentions to fully recover” his life, but that he will have to do it little by little.

The same thing happened with writing. In the same conversation with The New Yorker, the first interview after the attack, given in connection with the publication of the most recent novel, victory cityRushdie confessed that he was going through a kind of artistic block and had difficulty writing. This difficulty seems to be gradually overcome.

“For a long time after the attack, I couldn’t write. I just couldn’t. I tried, but there was nothing for me. And then I stopped trying. Looks like she’s coming back. Like the rest of me.
