The Speaker of the House checks whether the feds could have acted before according to the formula: “We are responding now”

In a CNN newscast on Friday, House Oversight Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) answered questions about whether the White House and the federal government could respond sooner to the baby food shortage, saying, “The White House has solutions.” And “we are reacting now.”

Co-host Alisyn Camerota said, “September. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said the White House is essentially asleep at this point. Couldn’t they have been engaged before?

Maloney said, “Well, the White House has come up with solutions. We’re working on imports right now. They’re doing all kinds of things. Congress is responsible. There’s going to be a hearing on another committee next week, not my committee. We asked for a briefing at the end of the month. Our briefing will come from the private sector. The Republicans problem. ‘

Camerota continued, “I think the real issue was that the Abbott memorial service was in mid-February. We’re in mid-May. So can’t the federal government do something sooner?”
