Kathy Britt beats polls to advance to the runoff against Mo Brooks in the GOP primaries for the Alabama Senate

At Tuesday’s Alabama premiere, former Alabama Business Council chairman Kathy Britt is expected to be a key figure in the runoff on June 21.

As it stands, it made a stock with a large margin. With approximately 90% reporting, Britt, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) 15% with just over 100,000 votes to 44.7%.

Brooks won 29.1% of the vote, six points ahead of US Army veteran Mike Durant, who received 23.3% of the vote. Brooks received more than 37,000 votes from Durant, who stayed in the runoff on June 21.

The Real Clear Politics poll average showed Britt leading with 35% of the vote, but Brooks was close to her with 29% ahead of Tuesday’s vote.

Britt beat the polls by 10 points to show strength in rural Alabama and North Alabama, where a showdown is expected between Brooks and Durant, both of Huntsville.

The U.S. Senate race from Alabama had many corners, and Britt, Brooks and Durant spent time as leaders.

Brooks took the lead early on, with the popularity and support of former President Donald Trump.

Gradually, throughout the second half of 2021, Britt lost the lead to Brooks. However, Durant, who was late in the race, was back in the lead with even numbers in early 2022, according to a Hill/Emerson College poll conducted in late March.

When Durant took the lead, Trump “canceled” his support for Brooks and pushed him to third place.

By April, Durant’s lead had deteriorated and Britt took the lead as Brooks continued to rebound from March lows.

But Britt’s slow and steady campaign strategy, along with an aggressive advertising campaign from Britt-related PACs, pushed Britt to multiple votes on Tuesday.

Brooks and Britt will fight for the GOP seat in the November election on June 21. The winner will face Democratic candidate Will Boyd, who won the full support of his party on Tuesday.
