The candidate for the leadership of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, said this Thursday that Saturday will be the first day of the recovery of the party and the reconquest of its status as a party with a majority vocation for government and as an alternative to the PS.
“Saturday [dia das eleições internas] It will be the first day of the recovery of the PSD, of recovering the condition of a party with a majority vocation for government, to give a political alternative to the Socialist Party (PS),” said Montenegro, after visiting a textile company in the municipality of Guimarães, district from Braga.
For Montenegro, one of the two candidates for the leadership of the PSD, the PS “has badly governed the country”.
“The Socialist Party in the last 27 years has already left the country in the swamp once, it has already left the country bankrupt again and, today, it leaves Portugal, with Dr. António Costa, with a brand, which is the mark of impoverishment: we are increasingly at the tail of Europe, we have lower wages, we pay more and more taxes to the State and we receive fewer and fewer quality and efficient public services”, said Luís Montenegro.
In this sense, this situation “demands that the PSD fulfills its opposition task and its mission to be an alternative in the future”.
We are a power project for Portugal, we are a victory project for Portugal. And it is true that this will change some structures that want everything to remain the same. But we are here to change Portugal. So get ready: this is what will happen on Saturday, and this is what will happen after Saturday,” Montenegro predicted.
Regarding the electoral campaign for the party’s internal elections, Luís Montenegro was “particularly satisfied” with its development, during which he held more than 40 meetings with militants and contacts with personalities, institutions and companies.
Two days before the internal elections, Luís Montenegro made a “very positive balance” campaign, also because he felt “a great internal mobilization, particularly among the youngest militants”.
“But it is clear that all this now has to translate into an expressive vote, which is what I want everyone to be able to do next Saturday. It is also a call that I make to all the militants so that they exercise their right to vote, so that they make their choice, whatever it may be”, underlined Montenegro.
Asked about the criticism of his opponent, Jorge Moreira da Silva, about the fact that he did not show willingness to discuss the two, Montenegro refuted the accusation, saying that he has a project for the country.
I have a project to govern Portugal, I have a project to rebuild the PSD, I have a project to make the PSD, once again, the engine of society, so that we have more growth, more wealth creation and that, with that , we can give more opportunities”, highlighted Montenegro.
For Luis Montenegro, “there has never been an internal electoral campaign of the PSDwith the system of direct elections, with more than one candidate, with the elevation that he had”, devaluing any possible tension that may have existed between the two candidacies.
“Although I was not responsible for any of these episodes with any tension, I feel very comfortable, in general, to join what was a high, participatory campaign, which, I hope, can culminate, on Saturday, with a high participation rate. and with an expressive vote on the winning candidate, who, I hope it’s meMontenegro declared.
