Leader of the PPM/Azores says that this is not the time for “intestinal fights”

The leader of the PPM/Azores, Paulo Estevão, considered this Monday that this is not the time for “intestinal fights” in the face of the challenges facing the region as a result of the global challenges that arise.

The parliamentarian appealed “Come together to overcome difficulties” imposed by the pandemic and the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, safeguarding that “this is not the time for internal fights”.

The deputy spoke at the solemn session reminiscent of the Day of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, in the municipality of Lagoa, on the island of São Miguel, which returned to the conventional format after two years of interregnum due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Paulo Estevão left the message that the two PPM deputies elected to the regional parliament in the last regional legislative elections in October 2020 “played a decisive role” in the formation of the coalition that supports the Government of the Azores.

For the parliamentarian, “a political change was necessary” in the Azores because “no democracy survives without an alternative”, alluding to the 24 years of socialist power in the region, which ended in the last elections.

The Day of the Autonomous Region of the Azores was instituted in 1980 by the Regional Legislative Assembly to be celebrated on Monday in Espírito Santo.

According to the preamble of Regional Decree No. 13/80/A, of August 21, 1980, which establishes the Day of the Azores, in the region, formed “by small isolated communities for centuries”, its inhabitants “maintain deeply cults and practices, fully rooted in daily life that, despite the growing globalization, still maintain a deep meaning, being one of the traits of Azoreanity”.

The diploma highlights that the commemoration of the Holy Spirit has a “vitality that naturally spreads to all the Azorean nuclei of the worldincluding the communities of Azorean origin in the south of Brazil, and that is expressed in celebrations as spontaneous and as lively as they are intense”.
