PCP wants to listen to the Minister of Labor in the Assembly of the Republic about cuts in food baskets

The PCP requested, this Wednesday, urgent hearings from the Minister of Labor and the president of the Social Security Institute in parliament to provide clarification on the cuts in food support.

According to a request addressed to the Government, through the Assembly of the Republic, the communist caucus requests a hearing “with the utmost urgency” of the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, and the president of the Security Institute Social, Rui Fiolhais.

They are at stake indications that the Social Security Institute will have given at the end of May in order to reduce the beneficiaries by 30,000 of the Support Program for the Most Deprived Population, responsible for supplying food baskets.

The PCP argues that it is an “unacceptable decision that acquires especially serious dimensions at the present moment of worsening” of the country’s economic and social situation.

The “administratively imposed” cuts come at a time “when inflation continues to skyrocketessential goods and services have an ever-increasing cost, workers, retirees and pensioners, families are, day by day, losing purchasing power”, add the communists.

The solution, adds the party, “cannot go through cuts in existing support, nor through criteria that limit and deny access to social benefits to thousands of people, endangering their social benefits and aggravating situations of poverty.”

From the point of view of the PCP, inflation must be addressed by increasing wages and pensions and also with the price control of services and goods considered essential.
