Lisbon. In 6 months there were more than a month of strikes

“Due to a strike, the subway is closed. We apologize for the inconvenience.” If you live or work in Lisbon, in the first six months of this year alone, you may have come across the now-famous notice at station entrances, or on illuminated panels, at least 11 times. Between January 1 and June 30, only in the first two months did Metropolitano workers strike no day to demand better working conditions. Although it is one of the means of transport that, when stopped, can cause major constrictions to the city, is far from the only one that has made life difficult for those traveling in Lisbon.

The unions speak of “chronic” problems, aggravated by the inflationary scenario, and complain of the “lack of interlocutors in a government with an absolute majority.” The majority left in the municipality asks the Executive of the Coast “greater attention to the sector” and that it can “accelerate the necessary procedures”, but also recalls that “the workers have been dissatisfied for a long time.”
