The president of the Ordem dos Enfermeiros expressed this Thursday expectantly about the name of the head of the new executive direction of the National Health Service, arguing that he must have the profile of the former Gouveia e Melo vaccination coordinator.
New Acting Executive Director of Health in the Fall
“I really want to know who will be the ‘CEO’ of the National Health Service (SNS). I think he has to have the profile of Admiral Gouveia e Melo. The vaccination was a success thanks to the nurses and, above all, thanks to him, who worked very well with us”, Ana Rita Cavaco told Lusa.
This new executive directorate, which will coordinate the entire public assistance response to users in the country and which will be appointed by the Minister of Health, is provided for in the new SNS Statute that was approved this Thursday by the Council of Ministers.
Asked if there is already a name to direct this structure, Marta Temido said: “I know, but I won’t tell.”
In reaction to the approval of the statute, the president of the Ordem dos Enfermeiros, who does not yet know the final version of the document, said that the “great curiosity” is to know who will be appointed to lead this new operational structure. , stating that he will be a “person who will have as much power as probably the Minister of Health”.
That it be a person who can carry out the structural reforms that are needed”, stressed Ana Rita Cavaco, giving as an example the proposal for an order to create normal birthing centers, which allowed “immediately reducing the ratio of obstetricians who are needed in the emergency rooms”. ” of public hospitals.
Regarding the measures provided for in the SNS statute, the president considered that, with “so many things that have happened in the area of Health”, it is like São Tomé: “Seeing is believing”. But he warned that “it doesn’t make sense to let certain lobbies take care of health.”
“There has never been political courage to confront and confront certain lobbies that govern health, as is the case with the doctors’ lobbies,” said the president of the nurses.
According to the Minister of Health, this new entity that will be created will assume the coordination of the entire healthcare response of the SNS, ensuring its network operation.
The executive management will also assume responsibilities that currently correspond to other entities of the SNS and that the Government wants to “see them work better”, as is the case of some functions that belong to the Central Administration of the Health System, said Marta Temido.
In addition, the management of the national continuous integrated care network and the palliative care network, which corresponds to the regional health administrations, will be transferred to this new entity provided for in the SNS statute.
The executive board will also have some “new missions” such as appointing the boards of directors of the hospitals and the executive directors of the groups of health centers, the minister explained.
